One of the things I get excited about in writing is that it allows you to think about, and attempt to capture, the profound. Obviously, I’m not always successful, but it’s a great mental challenge to try, none the less.
I was editing my latest book and tried to capture the progression of our understanding of our place in the cosmos. (Unsure of the success! LOL). Zandra (protagonist with the ability to sense other dimensions) is talking with Starra (quantum AI android). Here’s the draft of Starra’s dialog describing Zandra’s ability to see the multiverse:
“Yes, and humans have a difficult time even describing or putting order to such things. Humans seem to have a need to set known bounds, to know their place in what they see as the vastness around them. Originally the world was flat and the boundary was an ocean cliff you could fall off. Then you were a planet, and all the stars and planets you could see circled around you as the everything of that day. Eventually that thinking changed to an understanding of a universe with solar systems and galaxies, but you called that ‘everything’ too. Now you learn there’s even more than the infinite ‘everything’ of your universe; the Omniverse. You might say the infinite infinites. It is a new discovery for you. It must be exciting.”
What do you think? Want to play editor and help me make this more profound?
PS. Extra points for knowing what the above picture is.
